A /Peace/ of Christmas History

This year’s Sainsbury Christmas commercial is based on a true story from WWII. I love it for so many reasons, but primarily I think I’m drawn to how in the midst of war–the culmination of contrasting opinions–it shows the similarity of humanity, a longing for peace.

Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseph Mohr could not possibly have known the impact their song, Silent Night, would have on the world for generations to come when they composed it in Austria between 1816 and 1818.

As we are in the midst of this busy, rush-rush Christmas season, may the One who came into this world that ancient Holy night, come into our hearts with His peace.

Lord Jesus, come into our silent nights.
